Unfortunately, the dominant political powers in the US today (on both sides of the aisle) want us to believe that roadway expansion is the best answer to our transportation problems.
My message is that roadway expansion IS the source of our transportation problems, not the solution and certainly not the answer for the 21st Century.
Am I advocating for highways to go away? Absolutely not. In fact I would prioritize the maintenance of our current transportation infrastructure including our highways as the most urgent need for any new transportation funding source. Why should we be spending money on expansion projects of any kind when we don't have the ability to maintain what we already have? The infrastructure debt that we are passing on to future generations is embarrassing and irresponsible.

It is my intention to provoke a thoughtful discussion of land use and transportation policy in Colorado and in the United States, with the sole purpose of challenging the sustainability of the “business as usual” automobile centric transportation and land use culture that dominates public policy throughout the country today.
This site is very critical of the Owens and Bush Administrations for their steadfast support of big oil and the highway industry, regardless of future trends and better and more equitable transportation solutions that provide an alternative to continued highway expansion.
State and National Elected Officials should have a vision beyond today’s status quo that looks out 10, 20 or even 50 years into the future. They should be developing policies that support the health, safety and welfare of all Americans well into the future. Their policies need to treat all Americans equally, regardless of race, religion, income, or industry association.
In order to achieve exceptional results, leadership demands the vision and courage to challenge the status quo and seek out truly innovative solutions. Public leadership demands an enlightened perspective. Challenges such as climate change and peak oil must be addressed, instead of ignored or denied. Our future depends on it.
